Shelbourne Improves Powerblade Head for 2005

19th November 2008

Innovation has always been the keyword with Shelbourne Reynolds since the introduction of the Powerblade range of hedge and verge trimmers. "Being relatively new to the industry we need to incorporate features and performance that give us a competitive edge" says Neil Smith, Sales and Marketing Director.

The Powerblade led the way in head design from the start with its hydraulic roller, the new head further enhances this benefit as well as incorporating other features such as a new sleeker lower profile and rounded corners to facilitate access to difficult areas.

In addition to innovation the Powerblade range from Shelbourne also features high powered hydraulics. Development work has been done in the South East of England close to the Bury St Edmunds factory.  Much of this work has been done on power sapping reeds and grass,  the Powerblade has been engineered to outperform other machines in tough conditions. This is done using Shelbourne’s  low flow, high pressure hydraulic system which gives reduced pressure drops through the system which in turn generates less heat and provides more power to the cutting head .

The Powerblade range consists of 4.6m, 5.3m and 6.0m fixed boom models and 5.3m, 6.0m and 6.7m telescopic models

New features in the Shelbourne Powerblade

  • Improved front nose geometry and construction to give better cut material transfer and flow into head shell. Radii corners to help prevent material snag and drag.
  • Simple bolt on anti abrasion wear plates mounted to lower edge of head shell’s side sheet to reduce damage from road surface during verge trimming
  • New profile roller ends for improved cutting height control.
  • Advanced hydraulically adjustable roller now using only single double acting cylinder controlling torsion tube and side linkage arms. Controlled independently from tractor spool hydraulics. Roller movement range also increased giving more variety.

Existing features in the Shelbourne Powerblade

  • Heavy duty, double-skinned head shell adds strength and keeps its appearance longer
  • Fully adjustable nose guard and rubber flaps front and rear as standard (reduces risk of stones etc being thrown)
  • Quick-change rotor allows quick change from heavy hedge to grass work
  • Rotor mounted on generous 50mm double-row roller bearings
  • Wide choice of flail types available on same rotor – HD T flails, boot flails on shackles, etc…..
  • Twin B section raw-edged vee-belt final drive absorbs shocks.  No special  coupling to shear/wear
  • 5” diameter roller as standard.  4 bearing mounting allows bearings to be greased, prolonging life
  • Roller carefully positioned to stop crop being repeatedly cut, avoid the roller running over it and achieve a more accurate cut height
  • Careful cowl design gives smooth path for ejection of heavy crops
  • Centre-mounted head offers full reach at all times, without compromise
  • Full 240º of head rotation
  • Rotor can be run in either direction on all machines
  • 1.2m cut width as standard, 1.5m optional
