Shelbourne Reynolds is broadening its range of Variable Forward Reach Telescopic (VFRT) hedgetrimmers, launched at January's LAMMA, to include a second model. The new machine is aimed at farmers and contractors keen to benefit from the concept, but who do not have need for the full 7.5m reach of the HD775 VFRT.

The variable forward reach part of the Shelbourne design incorporates a pivot between the first and second arms, enabling the rotor head to be placed precisely where required and providing the operator with the best position for both comfort and cutting accuracy. A telescopic second arm means VFRT hedgetrimmers blend both types of reach in one machine, enabling operators to place the cutting head in positions previously not possible with machines offering reach of only one type.

The new HD765 VFRT has a reach capability of 5.6-6.5m, suiting it to lighter and less powerful tractors than its larger brother. It also features a more compact design, folding into a smaller package for road transport, and suiting it to narrow lanes.

Fitted with the same flail head as its larger brother, the HD765 VFRT has a total cutting width of 1.5m. As well as enabling the cutting head to be positioned right alongside the tractor, without the need for a cranked arm design, VFRT also allows the second arm to reach rearwards behind the machine, allowing the operator can side up a hedge or trim a verge with the head behind the tractor's rear wheel. The head can be placed rearwards by between 1.0m and 1.6m, depending upon the position of the telescopic arm. Forward reach is up to 2.0m.

The HD765 VFRT, which weighs 1,970kg, is recommended for tractors of approximately 120hp and at least 5,500kg. Mounting is via three-point linkage, with the use of Shelbourne axle brackets recommended. Supplied as standard with a digital proportional control joystick, list price of the new machine is £30,900.
