Rape Swather

The Advantage swather is the latest in a long line of self propelled swathers from Shelbourne Reynolds designed specifically for oilseed rape. The advantage is fitted with a custom built header available in 4.8m (16’) and 5.4m (18’) widths. The Advantage swather enables the user to swath the crop when it is still alive and accelerate the ripening process whilst minimising harvesting losses. Shelbourne Reynolds manufactures these heads with more lateral and vertical clearance to cope with the demands of the UK oilseed rape crop to enable the Advantage swather to leave a perfect "heads out" swath every time. Leaving a swath with the heads on the outside means that the air dries it more quickly and evenly.

System Advantages vs Straight Harvesting

• the crop can be windrowed when the oil in the seed is at a maximum even if weather conditions are wet therefore the seed quality is higher.
• the crop dries quicker and more evenly when lying in a swath
• if any seed does shell out of the pod much of it will be captured in the windrow rather than falling to the ground.
• Harvesting losses are lower when swathing as seed is lost at the cutterbar, reel and auger using conventional headers
• Harvesting is quicker
• No chemical is required and so it is therefore more environmentally friendly and less expensive
• Less seed is lost in a windrow than if the crop were standing in adverse weather

The MacDon 9352 Tractor Unit

Shelbourne has been using a specially modified version of the Canadian built MacDon tractor unit for 10 years, the machine has proven itself in the UK oilseed rape field as a leader in terms of both performance and reliability.
